Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a local customer sees, and Google Business Profile reviews are the first thing they read. Recent reports from Search Engine Roundtable's October webmaster report note a four-day window to reject user-suggested edits and that Google Maps now asks users to sign in for full review access. Both make active profile management more important.
Watch for edits you didn't make
Anyone can suggest changes to your hours, phone number, category or website. If you miss the notification and the window passes, a wrong number or a "permanently closed" flag can go live and cost you calls for weeks.
Do this: Turn on email notifications for your profile and check the "Edits" and "Updates" notices every morning during festive season.
Reply to every review, fast
Reviews influence both rankings and trust. A reply within a day or two shows prospects someone is home, and it gives you a natural place to mention the service and area ("thanks for choosing our Andheri showroom") without sounding forced.
Do this: Reply to every review within 48 hours: thank positive reviewers by name, and answer negative ones calmly with a specific fix and an offline contact.
Ask for reviews the right way
Don't buy reviews or gate them by only asking happy customers; that breaks Google's policies and risks removal. Make it easy instead: send your direct review link by WhatsApp or SMS right after delivery or service completion.
Do this: Create your short review link and add it to invoices, packaging inserts and post-service messages.
Keep the basics consistent
Name, address and phone number should match across your website, profile and directories. Our guides on Google's phone number policy for profile posts and optimising your profile for AI-generated answers cover the rest of the checklist.
Do this: Do a monthly 10-minute audit of hours, categories, services and photos.
The bottom line
Your profile is a shop front you don't fully control. A few minutes of daily attention keeps wrong edits out and good reviews working for you.
