For two years, "are we showing up in AI search?" has been a guess. Google has now rolled out the Search Console AI performance report worldwide (completed 31 August 2026), according to Search Engine Journal. It shows impressions from AI Overviews, AI Mode and generative AI features in Discover, broken down by page, country, date and device. Here's how to put it to work.

What the Search Console AI performance report actually shows

It tells you where your pages are appearing in AI-generated results. It does not show clicks, and sites with too few AI impressions may not see the report at all. Treat it as a visibility signal, not a traffic report. It lives under Settings in your Search Console property.

Do this: Open the report this week and screenshot your page-level AI impressions as a baseline. Without a starting number, you can't tell whether anything you change later is working.

Match AI-cited pages to pages that make money

Sort the page breakdown and ask a blunt question: are the pages Google's AI is surfacing the ones that earn you enquiries? Often it's an old blog post, while your service page is invisible. Our local SEO checklist for Google's AI Mode covers how to structure pages so AI can pull a clean answer from them.

Do this: For each key service page missing from the report, add a direct answer in the first 100 words, a short FAQ block, and proof (client numbers, certifications, named case studies).

Stop judging SEO by clicks alone

AI answers can satisfy a query without a click, so a flat traffic line no longer means a failing strategy. Pair AI impressions with branded search volume, direct visits, calls and form fills. If AI impressions rise and branded searches follow, the visibility is working even when clicks look quiet.

Do this: Build one simple monthly sheet: AI impressions, branded queries, enquiries. Review the three together, never one alone.

Know the opt-out control before you touch it

Google also added a property-wide setting to exclude your site from AI Overviews, AI Mode and Discover AI features without affecting normal rankings; page-level control isn't due until March 2027. For almost every business hoping to be found, opting out is the wrong move.

Do this: Leave the setting alone unless you have a legal or licensing reason, and make sure whoever manages your Search Console knows that.

The bottom line

AI search visibility is finally measurable, and most Indian competitors haven't looked at the data yet. Set your baseline, line up your money pages, and measure success on enquiries, not clicks.
